Abstract

A philosophical reflection on religion, capitalism and the secular spirit is presented following the latest book by Joan Mesquida Sampol. The author's idea that we live in a time of "post-secularization" and "normalization of laxity" is accepted, but at the same time some key postulates and proposals of the reviewed work are questioned. Clarifying concepts around religiosity and objectification, it is argued that being secular and Christian can be a solution to current problems rather than exacerbating them.

Author Biography

Joan Morro, UNED

Professor de Filosofia i Doctor en Humanitats. Personal docent d'institut i a la UNED, on tutoritza les matèries d'Ètica i Lògica. Ha realitzat estudis superiors de Filosofia, Relacions Internacionals i Gestió de Crisis a Catalunya, Espanya i Portugal. Coordinador de la Càtedra Internacional 'Hercritia' (UNED) i del Grup d'Estudis de Materialisme Històric (SCF). Investiga les implicacions ètiques del transhumanisme, la transformació de l'espai polític i la construcció del sentit comú modern.
