Peace as a duty: a political reflection on the present

Abstract

This work tries to reflect on the importance of the text "On Perpetual Peace" when thinking about the political, theoretical and practical implications, which have led to the conflicts open today in Europe. These conflicts are the result in practice of forgetting the Kantian project of peace understood as a duty, and therefore, of the de facto contempt of reason as a legislative source of the moral and the political. This work aims to point out these problems in relation to these conflicts by indicating what is, in Kant's eyes, their most likely foundation.

Author Biography

José González Fuxà, Universitat de Barcelona

My name is José González Fuxà, I have a degree in philosophy with a major in moral and political philosophy, and a doctorate in 2023 with a thesis on the Aristotelian theory of natural slavery and its reception in the Spanish conquest of the indies I am currently dedicated to teaching, researching and disseminating philosophy and, more specifically, moral and practical philosophy in Aristotle's work. My academic interests are Aristotelian practical philosophy, ethics in general and some questions of philosophy of law and politics, such as, for example, everything related to the issue of Human Rights.
